1 Thessalonians 5: 17

Pray without ceasing.

Father, how is this possible?

You must first understand prayer. If you have an image in which prayer involves solitude and kneeling, you will find it difficult to be continually in prayer. This is the secret to Jesus’ success though. He was always connected to me.
How many minutes of the day do you spend not thinking at all? Almost none, correct? Prayer can be as simple for you as your thought process. I am not suggesting that you do not speak aloud, but rather that you simplify prayer to its most basic form. When you think of your thought life, imagine your prayer life being the same. It is just as simple and basic. You have a thought, you articulate that thought. You ponder a question, you pose that question.

All prayer must begin by connecting with me. There is no good in a multitude of words especially if you have never taken the moment to link with me. Would you walk around all day speaking to someone who was not present? That would be silly, wouldn’t it and yet my children do just that. They spew words like a broken pipe. The words splatter about in no specific direction. First, slow your heart and mind (Psalm 46: 10) focusing your attention on our union together. I will not automatically enter into conversation with you because I will not invade your space. You must invite me. When you purposefully and intentionally speak with me within the framework of our relationship, I will always be there and always respond. I am waiting to hear from you every minute of every day.

Begin in the morning by making an intentional connection with me and then just talk. It is that easy. Direct your words and your thoughts to me as if we are connected via a phone line. Every minute of every day can be spent communing together and this is my desire. Everything you do, do with me. When you redefine “prayer” as chatting with me, you will find it quite easy to pray without ceasing.

Questions for the Lord:

  1. Father, is seems silly for me to involve you in all the mundane things of life. Is that really what you would have me do?
  2. I am busy and around people all day. How can I stay connected with you?
  3. Your Question for the Lord
