Psalm 18:2

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation.

Father, what would you like to show me about this verse?

Ivey, there are eight elements in this verse and I would have you not miss a single one of them. Each of these eight elements stands alone as a blessing and I would have you meditate on each one. I hear you attracted to the “buckler”. Yes, I am your shield. No weapon of the evil one, no fiery dart, no ill-intentioned word can harm you because I, the Lord, am your shield, your buckler.

The interesting thing about a buckler is that it is a small shield. Why would I choose to be a buckler instead of a large tower shield? That is what intrigued you wasn’t it? The buckler is small, maneuverable and, importantly, also doubles as a weapon. The large shields do not give this extra benefit. Remember Isaiah 54: 17, “No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn.” You will condemn, Ivey. You are a victor in Christ. I am your sword and your buckler. You have a defensive and offensive weapon in each hand and both of them are me. You are to not only stand your ground but are to move forward in my glory. You are part of the advancing guard, never in your own strength but in my Spirit. We are one. You have the power of the divinity in you. You have the grace and gentleness of my love. Love is written upon your shield and it is the greatest weapon of all. Love is your forward and rear guard. Grace protects and keeps you. Stand in the glory of my might as I show that I am the Lord, your God!
